how long do i have to keep my credit card in good standing before it will raise my credit score?

   it can take up to 7 years of good standing for you to build up enough of a score to put you in the “Excellent” cradit rating. Just keep making your payments on time, and over the minimum. If you can, even pay off the whole thing and just make small purchases every month and then pay them off. That will boost your score faster because lenders will see that you pay up every month and arent being irrisponsible with amounts you can’t handle in a timely manner. Keep you oldest card open and in good standing so your credit history will appear to be longer.

   You will need at least a 24 month consistent, on time payment history to see any improvement in your score.

   Don’t carry any balances on that credit card. Use and pay it off in full every month. Save interest and stay out of debt.

   There are a number of things that contribute to your credit score. One credit line paid well is good. But it’s probably not enough on its own to make a substantial difference quickly. Once you are able to sustain an unsecured card, balance paid in full every month for 3 months, try getting one more card, perhaps a store credit card. Buy one item, pay it off immediately, and keep the account open, but don’t continue to use the card all the time.

   Good credit is built one brick at a time. Lay a good foundation, and build carefully!

   12-24 months of on-time payments with a debt-to-limit ratio of 30% or less.
