Layne wants to know:

I don’t want to join a credit repair or watch service – I just want to get a free credit report from the credit reporting agencies. I understand one is entitled to get one free for their own use.

I got a copy of my credit report and the address listed under “current address” is in another state, and I’ve never lived there! I don’t know where this address came from, and will dispute it, but how does that affect my credit report?

This occurred in 1998 and I know that it is only suppose to be on my credit report for 7 years.(not a bankruptcy) The problem is, apparently it keeps getting picked up by different collection agencies so it keeps “re-appearing” on my credit reports. It’s the only negative thing on my cr but it’s something that could hurt my chances for a good interest rate on a future loan. How can I get this “permanently” off my credit reports?? Help!

Paid off a negative credit card debt that was transferred to a collections agency. Invoice from collections agency states account is settled in full as of 2/10/05 and that they would notify my credit card company to update their records and my credit report. As of 3/31/06 my credit report still has not been updated. Who do I contact to get my credit report unpdated?

Lets say I have 4 credit cards totalling $3000. I then wrote out 4 checks and paid off each card in full on the same day. How long would I have to wait until my credit report reflected all of these charges paid off?

I’m trying to pay off my debt on my own, without getting help from a company. But I don’t know how to contact the companies I owe on my credit report. There’s only the name of the company and a part of my account number. There’s no contact number listed for them.

I don’t understand why if you give a bank money up front, and that’s your limit on the card, why they have to pull a credit report? Is there any way around? The reason I don’t want a report pulled is I’m trying to raise the score, but it’s already been affected negatively by too many inquiries.

Like if you opened a credit card account in 1996, then stopped paying on it in six months. Is it supposed to be erased in 7 years? Or, does it stay on your credit report if bought by another financial institution?

I don’t see a phone number on the credit report for the collection agency. What’s a best way to contact them?

I posted a question earlier asking about the similar topic. I had someone write that if you never PAYOFF YOUR DEPT TO CREDITORS IT WILL NEVER FALL OFF YOUR CREDIT REPORT and they will keep reporting it as negative. If that is true that means saying the report will fall off 7yrs after is false. Why is the Fair Credit Act have that disclosure about the 7yr policy, doesn’t make any sense. I thought regardless if anything is paid off or not everything by law will be removed from your credit report upon completion of the 7yr mark. Anyone know anything?

Chad B wants to know:

A company admittedly sent a charge I should have never been charged to a collection agency who in turn reported it on my credit report. The original company contacted the collection agency via letter telling them of the mistake but the collection agency refuses to stop trying to collect and to take it off of my credit report.

What are the steps in what i need to do to fix this mess?
Stop the spam!!
What kind of legal action is there???
Hope it doesn’t come to that. Geesh.
