Yahoo Answerer wants to know:

I want to make a new years resolution to pay off my credit cards, and I want to close them out to make sure I don’t get tempted to use them. Will that look bad on my credit score if I close them out, when they still have a balance? Also, do they carge extra for doing that? Thanks for ANY advice on this!

I called my credit card company and they said they mailed the credit card on Tuesday (1/15). When should I expect it to arrive at my home and do credit cards take longer to ship than standard first class mail?

I know that an old account will be deleted from your credit report 7 years from “last activity”. But what is “last activity”? Last payment? Last purchase on the credit card? Last contact with the company? Do the 3 credit bureaus have different definitions? Or do companies and collections have different definitions?

I have two credit cards, luckly only totalling about $1,500. Im a college student and used them for books. They are under collection and i still have the oppertunity to pay them off, which i am planning on doing anyway. BUT they are still going to be on my credit for the 7 years right? And If i pay them off, will it improve my credit rating atall, will they show up as paid off on my credit report? Or will paying them off do anything atall since they are so overdue.

I am a newly wed and my husband and I recently moved in with his parents in order to save money for our own home, however, money is not the only problem. Both of us have challenged credit. We know that those companys that claim that they are able to eliminate your bad credit are scams and that is not the way we are tring to go. Any sound advice that anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I am trying to rebuild my credit after ID theft, a couple of problems that were mine and years of basically not having any credit reported. (I primarily use my debit card and pay cash for everything). I make good money now and am trying to rebuild in order to purchase a condo in the next couple of years. My good accounts (rental, club, cable, cell, etc.) have not reported my good credit. So how many cards should I take out that will help boost my credit score but not hinder my credit. Thank you!

I have a collection item on my credit report for $245, I have paid it already. How can I remove it from my credit report? Is it better to talk to the collection agency to remove it or directly to the credit bureau? Tnx!

I’ve owned 2 credit cards for approximately 5 years and now have student loans to pay off as well around 30k. What or where is the best place to get a credit check done? How easy is this and can it be done online? And once you have it done once is there a company that will provide anymore future checks for free?

Punky Do wants to know:

My daughter-in-law just left on a trip with the children. She left my son with a note telling him about $75,000 of credit card debt that she has run up during their marriage. He had absolutely no idea that these charges were made. We suspect that she was giving money to her sister and family. Perhaps they even signed for the purchases. Is he going to be responsible for this debt? He is planning to separate and eventually divorce.
