I am working on paying off my credit cards because I am planning to retire in 3 to 5 years. Is it ok to close out these paid up cards all at one time or does it matter?

I mean, I understand the concept of building credit and everything, but what is the point of student credit cards? What is the purpose? I’m sorry if this is a silly question, but I don’t really get it.

And can you trade them in after you’re no longer a student for a “real” credit card? Do people just keep them forever? I always thought closing accounts lowered your credit score?

We are working our way to buying our own home and only have 50 pts to go to get approved, but I would like to raise it a little more than that so we can get a little better rate. Would it be quicker to get a secured credit card that reports to the credit bureaus or is there a better way?
I have several judgements (civil small claims) from landlords in the past, and also some collections, mainly from the hospital bills. Is it true that both of these will stay on your report wether you pay them or not? I have heard that sometimes when you pay off everything it actually lowers your score even more…
Any advice is appreciated.

I want to get a credit card just for purchasing things online like at amazon or yahoo. I am very responsible with money and since it would only be used occasionally I don’t want to be stuck with a bunch of fees for extras I don’t need. Are there any really basic cards I can get?
Don’t worry, I know that I’m spending MY OWN money and that you can overdo it and get in big debt which stays with you for a long time. I just want to buy a couple of things online and I have the money. Okay, yeah that sounds like what the typical person would say but seriously if I screw up with it that’s my problem, but thank you.

I’ve opened a few credit cards lately, but don’t plan on using them, only for emergencies. Will just having 4 or 5 credit cars available for my use somehow hurt my credit score, or credit in general for future loans I might want?

I tried to get a increase on one of my credit cards today and was told by the rep. that she could’nt because I had a credit protection statement on the account through Experian. Not a fraud alert, she says they are different.

Anyone know what this is, and why I could’nt get the increase?

I tried to call Experian, but I can’t get a live person. Arrrg!

I want to make a new years resolution to pay off my credit cards, and I want to close them out to make sure I don’t get tempted to use them. Will that look bad on my credit score if I close them out, when they still have a balance? Also, do they carge extra for doing that? Thanks for ANY advice on this!

I called my credit card company and they said they mailed the credit card on Tuesday (1/15). When should I expect it to arrive at my home and do credit cards take longer to ship than standard first class mail?

I know that an old account will be deleted from your credit report 7 years from “last activity”. But what is “last activity”? Last payment? Last purchase on the credit card? Last contact with the company? Do the 3 credit bureaus have different definitions? Or do companies and collections have different definitions?
