I have been using rewards cards and paying off the balance for years. I have read that applying for new credit card wont affect your record if you only get one, and don’t open too many in a short period of time. Not sure what “short period of time” is . There are 3 rewards cards I have been meaning to get because of bonus/rewards, but not sure how I should space them out.

I want to get a frequent flyer credit card but I already have 3 credit cards with generous limits. I don’t need these credit cards and I would like to cancel them and have this “possible credit” to go towards the new card. I heard once that canceling a credit card has a negitive effect on your credit score. Is this true? If so, how do I switch credit cards and avoid affecting my credit score in a bad way?

I’ve taken a secured by savings loan at my bank and that has raised my credit score enough for me to get a credit card. I have fair credit right now. I have had my credit card for 6months and made all payments on time but still no improvement on my credit score.

I have been in a debt management program with a local credit counseling service for about 8 months. My parents have offered to co-sign a loan so I can pay off the cards. The loan with the bank is a lower interest rate than the cards and will pay them off faster with a lower payment each month. Should I pay the cards directly or go through the credit counseling service? Which is better for my credit score?

I have 3 derogatory accounts on my credit score. I have settled them. They were charge offs and I settled them through a collection agency. Is there any way to remove these accounts becasue I think they are absolutely killing my credit score. Also, they have not been reported as being settled yet. I just settled them a month a go. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the collection agency to report these settlements? Please help.

My credit score is 549, because of personal loans and some other small bills I didn’t pay when I was 19. Now that I’m older and what to be a home owner what do I do to fix it? Its almost been 7 years but I was told that the 7 year rule no longer applies.

I am working on paying off my credit cards because I am planning to retire in 3 to 5 years. Is it ok to close out these paid up cards all at one time or does it matter?

I have 4 credit cards (limits are 1000, 3300, and two 500s) and was considering getting rid of one 500 credit card. Should I pay the whole thing off and KEEP it or GET RID of it??

I know having too many is not good for a person’s credit score and looks bad to those checking this credit. But not having any credit (such as cards) is not good either. So is it best to have more than one card?
